Hossein Atoufi serves as the Technical Lead for the XPRIZE Water Scarcity project within the Food + Water + Waste domain at the XPRIZE Foundation. He leads a five-year, $119 million global competition, leveraging his extensive background in consulting, academia, industry, and startup environments that spans over a decade. Hossein's primary focus is on environmental engineering, with a specialization in water treatment and desalination technologies.

Hossein is an enthusiastic Environmental Engineer who is passionate about developing innovative ways to treat water and reuse it for advantageous purposes, making significant contributions to the field of environmental engineering through his novel research and practical applications. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has served as a reviewer for over 50 prestigious journal articles, demonstrating his expertise and leadership. To improve global water management and sustainability, Hossein uses his vast experience and achievements to foster change and innovation. 

Hossein holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology, an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. His dedication to professional development goes beyond academic accomplishments, as he also obtained a Certificate in Leading People and Teams from the University of Michigan, which enhanced his leadership skills. 

In his leisure time, Hossein enjoys being outdoors with his family and exploring new locations, especially those close to water. He is an avid enthusiast of water sports, sand volleyball, and horseback riding.
