THE LARGEST CORAL RESTORATION EFFORT EVER

Become An Ocean Guardian

XPRIZE is activating a global community of collectors to launch the most ambitious coral restoration project in human history with the creation of the largest underwater artwork on the planet.

WHAT IF TECHNOLOGY COULD RESTORE CORAL REEFS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE?

XPRIZE Coral Restoration is a 5+ year long, $20M competition that will task competitors with successfully restoring the largest area of coral reef in a two-year period with a minimum area the size of 3 hectares and at least 3 different types of corals.

XPRIZE and the Government of Barbados are jointly fundraising for the XPRIZE Coral Restoration competition, and are seeking to raise USD$20M from sponsors to usher in new technologies and approaches that will restore coral reefs more efficiently and effectively at an unprecedented scale.

CORALS ARE DYING OFF at catastrophic rates, with entire ecosystems threatened by extinction. The rate of destruction is so urgent that we could be the last generations to benefit from these invaluable, life-sustaining reefs that were first formed 240 million years ago.

1 BILLION people depend on coral reefs for their livelihood and sustenance
25% of marine life calls the coral reef home
$9.9 TRILLION annual global value of coral reef services provided to humanity
93,000 MILES of shoreline in 100 countries and territories are protected by reefs
50% of coral reefs have already been lost
90% of coral reefs are projected to be extinct by 2030

This partnership with XPRIZE is part of Barbados’ broader effort to invest in innovative solutions and initiatives that will catalyze a global shift towards more just and sustainable economies.
