The two finalist teams outlined below will engage in a head-to-head competition at the Visioneering Summit to determine which idea will move forward to be launched as an XPRIZE.
Finalist Teams
A $7 million competition where the winning team will produce the most affordable refrigeration options for off-grid households in the developing world. One prize will be for the most practical household refrigerator, with approximately 0.4 kWh/day of cooling capacity, that costs less than $5/month to own and operate. A second prize will be for the most practical small community icemaker that can produce block ice for less than $0.03/kilogram.
A 4 year, $15 million XPRIZE that will enable clean energy abundance for all by creating a new generation of off-grid, home energy systems that are desirable, affordable and sustainable. The winning team will create a 500W home energy system that powers the largest number of valuable appliances for $1/day.
